For the more energetic, the bike riding and walking opportunities to be found in the surrounding area are excellent. The ancient village of Cowling sits in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, bordering the counties of West Yorkshire and Lancashire and miles from the market town of Skipton. Within the village there is a bustling high street with stone-built terraced houses set alongside mills of bygone age. Surrounding the village are many beautiful walking routes, including the Pennine Way on the stretch from Cowling to Gargrave. Skipton, known as the gateway to the Dales, offers plenty for visitors, including an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market set over the cobbled streets.
